Authorities meet ahead of CEC visit to inspect mining areas

Official sources said about five teams would inspect 99 mines in Hospet, Sandur and Bellary zone to ascertain whether illegal mining was going on and also on the extent of mining areas leased to them.

The meeting, chaired by Deputy Commissioner Amlan Aditya Biswas, was attended by Additional Chief Conservator of Forest Deepak Sharma and Director of Mines and Geology H R Srinivas, they said.

Owners of these mines have already been served notices directing them to furnish relevant documents to the teams.

Recently a green bench of the Supreme Court had ordered inspection of 99 minies by CEC, Mines and Geology department and Lokayukta officials in the backdrop of allegations that they engaged in illegal mining.
