The Pune outfit, adapting better to the grass surface, did not take much time to get into the rhythm. Combining well as a unit, they got down to business almost immediately and opened the scoring in the eighth minute through Rohit Dung's field goal.

BEG doubled the lead two minutes later when Samsulender K converted a penalty corner with an indirect attempt.

Rohit, who was later adjudged the man-of-the match, was once again on target when he sounded the board with firm hit from the edge of the striking circle to give his side a commanding 3-0 lead.

Trailing by three goals, Western came back strongly, but their efforts were a bit too late as they managed only two goals to end up on the losing side. Manish Saini and Malak Singh were the scorers for the railway outfit.

Later in the evening, Central Railway, Mumbai had things much their own way as they tamed debutants Abhi Foundation 6-0 after leading 2-0 at the end of the first half.
Ather Mirza and Deepak Lakra scored a brace each, while Navneet Swarnakar and Vishal Pillay chipped in with one goal apiece. Mirza was later adjudged Man of the Match.
