As soon as the Supreme Court verdict on disqualification of Karnataka MLAs came on Friday, the fate of the Yeddyurappa government was decided here as this senior JD (S) leader camped in the Capital and  kept knocking at the doors of Congress leaders and ministers in the UPA government pressurising them to siege the moment to dismiss the BJP government, sources say.

The leader also promised the Congress to get secular parties’ support in the Rajya Sabha in case the Centre imposed President’s rule in Karnataka for getting it passed in the Upper House where the UPA is in minority.

“As the UPA is in a minority in Rajya Sabha, the Congress was dithering to impose President’s rule in Karnataka earlier. However, now the leader belonging to JD(S) promised to get secular parties’ support like Left and others, we are sure that we have overcome this problems now”, sources said.

Houses’ approval
If the Centre wants to dismiss the State Government it should get the approval of the both the houses of Parliament. If the Centre wants to keep the state government in suspended animation, it need not to get approval from the Parliament for a period of six months. However, if the Centre wants to extend it beyond six months, then the Centre has to get approval from the Parliament, sources said.

Soon after getting assurance from leader belongs to JD(S), the Congress activated its backroom boys to explore the option to dismiss the government since Friday itself. Sources said that top leaders including Sonia Gandhi political secretary Ahmed Patel, Health Minister Gulam Nabi Azad and General Secretary Digvijay Singh met and discussed about the Karnataka issue both on Friday and Saturday.

Another senior leader Oscar Fernandes also met Governor  H R Bharadwaj on Saturday evening at Karnataka Bhavan. On the same day the Governor also held a meeting with both the Prime Minister and Home Minister and discussed about Karnataka developments.
