Houghton, who resigned last month, will be replaced by the Goan for a period of three months.“There are still some things that need to be sorted out, but we are in advanced talks with Colaco to take over the reins,” AIFF general secretary Kushal Das said.

It is understood that the deal is more or less agreed, with just a go-ahead from the Dempo board awaited. That is expected to just be a formality, as Dempo will have no football to play during the three-month period between June-August.

Colaco is expected to retain the services of his two assistants at Dempo, Savio Madeira and Marcus Pacheco, for the Indian team as well

The Dempo coach will take charge during a crucial period for India, when they will play a two-leg 2014 World Cup qualifier against Asian heavyweights UAE on July 23 and 28.
To prepare for the match, AIFF on Wednesday announced two friendlies against Maldives on July 10 and Qatar on July 17, both to be played away from home.
