Renowned musicians from across the State performed at the Sangeetotsav, organised by the Academy as part of its anniversary celebrations, and inspired the students of the Academy to reach great heights in their musical career. The event started with Ganapati Vandana by the students of the Academy.

Later Ravindra Babu, an aspiring singer, rendered a vachana of Akkamahadevi, Hasivadode Bhikshanna and a couple of Purandaradasa’s compositions.

Tabla Tarang, a percussion recital presented by Pandit Satish Hampiholi and team comprising Vasuki, Abhay, Amit, Prajwal, Varun and Vignesh, was enjoyed by all. Pandit Shivanand Herur, the man behind Guru Gaana Lahari Music Academy rendered a cheez in Raag Jog.

Smita Bellur, a young and talented Hindustani vocalist, captured the audience’s attention for hours with her soulful rendition.    She began with a khayal O Maa Dhan Dhan Ri and Durge Maharani in Raag Bihag.

She also sang a vachana Suprabhata Samayadalli composed by Basavanna.  Tabla maestro Chandrashekhar Badiger was felicitated by the Academy on the occasion. “This academy is my dream child. Music is a great healer and one can find peace with the help of music. So, I want to teach music to as many people as possible,” says Shivanand Herur.

“My ambition to learn classical music came true when I heard about this music school. The fee is also nominal and children from poor family background are also learning here. Shivanand Herur has also been teaching music to slum kids. This school has a family-like atmosphere and I wish the celebrations would continue forever,” says Sahana, one of the students.
