Association of Concerned and Informed Citizens of Mysore (ACICM) Convener M Lakshmana on Thursday announced that he along with fellow protesters will be staging a sit in demonstration near the office of Deputy Commissioner. Lakshmana demanded SHRC chairman to quit his post over failing to act swiftly in bringing guilty to the book.

Whenever any complaint is lodged with the body, the authorities concerned seek version from the respondent/s, instead of piecing together the facts on its own. Lakshmana reminded that the SHRC came into existence on the directions of Supreme Court. But, it is of lesser use, when those in the seat of power failing to perform.

Whenever any instances of violation of human rights is reported, it is the supreme duty of the commission to file a suo motu case. But, what’s happening now is exactly the opposite. It’s only for the sake of publicity that the chairman visits the districts.

The finest example is that of the Central Prisons of Mysore. Though he (S R Nayak) inspected the jail earlier, things remain unchanged, with the inmates living in cramped cells, he said.
