Now, in the II PUC exams of the arts stream, Geetha Hugar has scored 82 per cent, despite abject poverty at home. She stayed with a relative’s family, along with her mentally retarded brother, in the town for her studies at the government PU college.

Her mother, who works as a dailywager at Shellagi in Surapur taluk of Gulbarga district, funds her daughter’s education from her meagre earnings. Her father, who is an alcoholic, contributes little to the family’s income.

Geetha has an ambition to appear and pass the KAS examination and become a tahsildar, so that she can serve the people. She presently stays with the family of Mallappa Unnibhavi near the Bidarakundi Cross in the taluk. Call Shivananda Hugar on 99727 81040 if you want to help Geetha.
