Decision to field first was wrong: Gilly

Last Updated 21 May 2011, 15:40 IST

“My toss decision was wrong. I got caught up in the run rate, rain forecast and stuff. That combined with the worst fielding performance didn’t help on the bad day,” Gilchrist said.

“I don’t think it was pressure, it just went all wrong. I didn’t sense any tension in the group in the build up. We can sit back and be pleased about the way we came back. But it was frustrating today,” he added.

The Australian, however, said there are many positives to take home and heaped praise on his team for finishing fifth in the tournament.

“There is plenty to take away from this. It was good fun to be part. Nice feeling in the group and franchise in general.

“Shaun and Valthaty were outstanding. We didn’t bat well around them in the heart of the tournament. We batted well at the start and finished well but didn’t do well in the middle.

“In bowling, Piyush Chawla made a good comeback, Praveen Kumar did well and always led from the front.”
