To facilitate generation process, the Energy Department has announced a slew of programmes that includes opening of new stations, drawing new supply lines among several others.

Addressing media at Chamundeshwari Electricity Supply Corporation (Cesc) Limited., here on Saturday, Energy Minister Shobha Karandlaje announced that the grid will be richer by the power generated at Udupi, Bellary second unit and from other energy sources. That apart, 167 new stations, 19 in Mysore region alone, are planned besides drawing new lines in 35 places. The pending works on two stations will also be taken up.

Citing the importance of ‘Niranthara Jyothi’ ambitious programme of Chief Minister B S Yeddyurappa, the minister said domestic and pumpset lines will be bifurcated under the same. Of 24 taluks identified for the programme, 10 would be completed by this year.
Earlier, the minister said that the state has been buying 1,300 mw of power daily, but still it’s not bereft of grievances.

She owed it to inadequate basic infrastructural facilities with existing stations and lines not matching with the demand.

For the past 30 years, no attempts had been made to streamline the facilities, despite of having sufficient power supply.

Replying to a query, the minister put transmission and distribution losses at 15.4 mw at Cesc. Earlier, she reviewed the progress of Cesc, sitting through an hour long meeting. Cesc Managing Director Dr P Boregowda, Chief Engineer Shanthi and others were present.
