Where are bus shelters?

Passengers seethe in summer and drench in monsoon, with no choice
Last Updated 22 May 2011, 16:09 IST

Hundreds of people, especially those from villages visit Chamarajanagar everyday and they have to bear with the heat of scorching sun or rain depending upon the season.

Santhemarahalli Circle is a busy spot where passengers in large numbers wait for buses that proceed to Yalandur, Kollegal and Hanur. They have to inevitably stand for a long time as there is no bus shelter at the place, which at least provides a bit of shade and seating arrangements for a few.

Ironically, the place has no space to even construct a bus shelter. Hawkers are dominating this place to sell their products and get irritated when the passengers wait for the buses in front of the shops.

A bus shelter has been constructed on the double road at JSS college premises, which fails to serve the purpose. But taluk office, which is at a distance is always busy except on holidays, here too a bus shelter is missing. The case is similar in front of district administration office and Gundlupet circle. The passengers blame the town municipal and the elected representatives for not showing any consideration towards the passengers.

There were assurances that bus shelters would be constructed with MLCs and MLAs fund. But majority of the bus stops lack sufficient place. Girish, one of the passengers said that it is necessary to construct bus shelters at Santhemarahalli and  Gundlupet circles, double road, Sathyamangala road and other places where floating population is more. The elected representatives and Town Municipal Council should immediately take suitable steps to provide bus shelters for the people, stresses people here.
