Multi-village water supply scheme awaiting approval

Speaking at the Zilla Panchayat meeting held under the presidentship of ZP President Shailaja Bhat, he said the 15 proposals include three in Mangalore taluk, eight in Bantwal taluk and four in Sullia taluk.

The said 15 proposals include Konaje covering 10 villages, Golthamajalu and other villages, Sarapady and surrounding villages, Sangabettu, Mani, Naringana, Kolnadu, Kurnadu and surrounding villages, Sajipamunnoor, Kariangala, Jalsoor, Bellare, Ajjavara and Sampaje. However, the members alleged that Puttur and Belthangady have not been given priority while preparing proposals for Multi-Village Water Supply Scheme.

The ZP President directed the engineers to conduct a survey on those places where the Multi-Village Water Supply Scheme can be implemented in the district.

Task Force

MLA U T Khader said that the government has released Rs 15 lakh each to constitute task force in each constituency in the district to undertake immediate works related to drinking water. Last year’s pending funds under task force should be utilised for the task force work and not for other works.


Member Pakeera said that water bill collectors fail to deposit the water cess collected, in to the account of the Gram Panchayat. There is a need to decide who has to collect the water bill. In-charge CEO Shivarame Gowda responding to the same, said that the Gram Panchayat bill collectors should collect the bill and deposit it in the account.

Ganga Kalyana

The members alleged that Dr B R Ambedkar SC/ST Corporation in-charge district manager Damodar Naik is said to have been sanctioning borewells to those beneficiaries who pay Rs 5,000.  The borewells are not drilled in places where there is a need for the same in the district. Member Chandrakala and others said that the officer speaks rudely with the ZP members. ZP President and in charge CEO asked the officer to apologise to the ZP members.
