Man held for charge of serial cheating

While the police state that details of the interrogation will be made public on Wednesday, Sharif, one of the victims told Deccan Herald that he was cheated of Rs 12.9 lakh about four years ago.

“I was introduced to him by one of my friends and he had promised me that he would help me obtain a loan from the World Bank and had charged me Rs 12.9 lakh for his service, which he insisted I pay in advance,” he said.

Sharif said he paid up, but “the man went missing after that.” Noting that there were several people at the police station after they found that he had been found and the court had referred his case to the police, Sharif said: “He has cheated people of at least Rs 30-40 crore, although he has admitted to have cheated them of only about Rs 20 crore.”

Tauro, Sharif claimed, cheated people promising that he would help them clear IAS examinations, get Rajya Sabha seats and so on and that he is wanted in several states.
Inspector Vasudeva Nayak said: “This is a referred case and we have not got to the bottom of it yet.”
