‘Bharatanatyam’

Gayathri Tribhuvan will present a bharatanatyam recital, as a tribute to  Sri Purandara Dasa by performing Dasara Padagalu on the occasion of Kannada Chinthane-18 organised by Kannada Abhivrudhi Pradhikara along with Suchitra Kalakendra, on May 29, 6 pm. The venue is Suchitra Auditorium, B V Karanth Road, Banashankari 2nd Stage. Ananya Raghavendra will deliver a lecture on Dasa Sahitya on the
occasion. 

 Tagore songs
‘Come Home to Tagore Songs’ by Sudeshna Rudra Sanyal, Biswaroop Rudra and an accompanying band of musicians from Kolkata, will be held on May 29, 6 pm.

Notes and beats
Sapthak is holding its fifth Varshikotsav called Pancham Jhenkar on May 29, 5.30 pm. The venue is Khincha Hall, Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan, Race Course Road. The artistes performing on the occasion are Aneesh Pradhan (tabla solo), Sudhir Nayak (harmonium lehra), Ganapathi Bhat, Hasanagi (vocal),) Gurumurthy Vaidya (tabla) and Vysayamurthy Katti (harmonium). On the occasion, Shadaj Sur Sadhe, an audio CD by Dhananjay Hegde, will be
released.

Vocal recital
Sri Maha Ganapathi Sangeetha Sabha has organised a Carnatic vocal recital by Pallavi Prasanna Madhyastha on May 29, 6 pm at Sri Mahaganapathi Temple, Vinayakanagar, Devasandra, K R Puram.

‘Allied Ragas’
Ananya is presenting Allied Ragas-13, a thematic music programme series on ragas Abhogi, Sriranjini and Jayamanohari by Nagavalli Nagaraj, accompanied by Jothsna Manjunath, Harinarayan on May 29, 10 am. The venue is Ananya Sabhangana, 91/2, 4th Main, Malleswaram.

Lights on
Girish Karnad’s play, Bikhre Bimb (Hindi), will be staged at Ranga Shankara, on May 29, 3.30 pm and 7.30 pm.

The one-act one-performer play tells the story of Manjula Nayak, a professor of English literature, who has been an unsuccessful writer in Kannada. She finds international acclaim when she writes a novel in English, which becomes a bestseller.

Arundhati Nag’s masterly portrayal of two characters in a skillfully conceived plot has won her accolades and awards.

Solo performance
Jyotsna B Rao, dancer, choreographer and actor, will be presenting her full-length solo performance, ‘Spirit’, at the National Gallery of Modern Art this month. The performance will be held on May 28, 7 pm at the National Gallery of Modern Art. The artist celebrates the spirit of life while travelling through memories and tracing her personal journey as a performer. ‘Spirit’ is inspired by the great Mexican painter Frida Kahlo, whose unique vision and inspirational work becomes the starting point for the dancer to generate and construct her ideas.

‘Arangetram’
The bharatanatyam arangetram of Jyotsna Prasad will be held on May 29, 6.05 pm, at ADA Rangamandira, J C Road.  Jyotsna is trained under Kalarathna Padma Murali at her dance academy Padmalaya.

Group show
Renaissance Gallerie is holding a group art show till May 31 at the Renaissance Gallerie.
On show will be paintings by Prateep Ghosh from Kolkata, Shashi Bane from Mumbai, Prakash Maji from West Bengal, Barun Roy from Kolkata and Philip D’Mello from
Mumbai.

‘Nrityanjali’
Sanjali Centre for Odissi Dance will present Odissi Nrityanjali — the fifth annual concert of the institute, by the students of Sharmila Mukerjee at JSS Auditorium, Jayanagar, on May 28, 6 pm. For details, call 9886231500.
