One of the most popular hotels in South Bangalore, it is a self-service, open-kitchen eatery known for its tasty idli and sambar, along with traditionally-made fresh coffee.
Vasudeva Rao, a hotelier from Karkala in Udupi district, started this joint in 1980. Now his son Prasad Bhat is spearheading the business and has continued his father’s legacy of treating their customers like guests.

“More than 90 per cent of my customers are regulars and they have a cordial
relationship with our hotel and staff. We open at 6 am, so those who go to Lalbagh for morning walk and the office-goers stop by for coffee. Along with coffee, they also have idli, vada, upma and kesaribath. By 7.30 am, we prepare rice items like pulav and puliogare. For lunch, one can have rice-sambar and curd rice,” says Prasad Bhat. As they open early in the
morning, the place closes by 7.30 pm. During morning and lunch time, the joint is crowded with customers. People even from Girinagar, Jayanagar, J P Nagar, and Hanumanth Nagar visit this place regularly to savour their favourite coffee.

“They do not keep the decoction ready and serve you by adding milk as many coffee shops do. Once you order for a cup of coffee, they prepare it on the spot. That is one of the nice things about this place,” says Naveen Raikar, one of the customers. Ganesh T A, a lawyer, has been a regular customer here for the last 10 years. “I am a resident of Kengeri Satellite Town. Everyday, as I reach this place, I can’t continue my journey without stopping by for a coffee. One should taste the first-class coffee they serve here. Suprabhata has maintained the same original quality despite the price hike,” he says. Though the eatery is an old establishment, it has hygienic and the prices are reasonable.
