Violence erupts in Mau, after seven crushed by truck

Large scale violence erupted after the accident took place this afternoon, as crowd burnt three police posts and pelted stones on the Dakshin Tola police station.

Inspector General of Police Azamgarh, KK Tripathi said that a truck crushed at least five passersby and seriously injured over a dozen people, two of whom later succumbed to injuries, when they tried to chase it after it collided with an auto at Sanskrit Pathshala morh under the Dakshin Tola police station of Mau district.

He said that as per reports received, the truck driver crushed all the people who were trying to chase and stop it.

Tripathi said that irate mob not only burnt a number of police posts but also a post office and added that top police and administrative officials have reached the spot.

Eyewitnesses said that police fired several rounds in air to control the mob and violence, but still the situation is very tense and out of control.

Additional Director General (Law and Order) Brij Lal said that he was not in a position to comment on the situation right now, as it was very tense.
