No part of the ward gets water. The Council staff have also begun providing water to the houses of only those who bribe them. “The valvemen act like officers in-charge of supplying water and demand bribes to provide water to our houses,” the protesters said.
“There is no water supply for quite a few days now, creating a lot of problems for the residents,” they complained. “Our memorandum demanding immediate action by the Council went unheeded,” they added.
Argument
Council commissioner G H Raykar, who arrived at the spot, requested the protesters to withdraw and open the office gates.
The protesters, in turn, started arguing with him about their problem.
The commissioner and executive engineer promised the protesters to examine the problem in Ward 4, after which, the residents called back their protest.
