Congress demands stern action

The main constituent of the ruling UPA on Wednesday said that the call of the yoga instructor-cum businessman for an “armed rebellion is a serious issue” and sought appropriate action from the government.

“It is a serious statement… government should take action to uphold democracy and Constitution,” Congress spokesperson Jayanti Natarajan told reporters.

Giving a chronology of the preparatory events behind Ramdev’s fast, the Congress leader tried to prove that the yoga guru’s hunger strike was sponsored by RSS and appealed to the government to take action “so that the situation is not communalised and polarised”.

Jayanti Natarajan also demanded an answer from Leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha Sushma Swaraj, who went to Haridwar to meet Ramdev on Wednesday, on whether BJP supports the call for armed rebellion against the democratically elected government.
