Magnitude Gallery is bringing you Junglee — Magnificently Wild, a collection of paintings that depict majestic wild animals in their natural habitat this month between 10 am and 8 pm.

The gallery is located at 140/13, 27th Cross, 13th Main, 3rd Block, Jayanagar.


A photo exhibition, called ‘The Timeless Essence of Indigenous People’, will be held till June 12, 10 am to 7 pm at Chitrakala Parishat. It will showcase 24 evocative visuals that mark the culmination of over three years of Vivek Dhage’s extensive travelling and research on the tribals of Karnataka.

Fine strokes

Sanjay Sood and are holding ‘50.25.10’, an exhibition of 50 works by 25 artists from 10 states, at the Art Corridor, The Taj West End till June 10, 11.30 am to
8.30 pm.

‘Visual Narratives’

Hobitute Art Foundation is holding an exhibition of paintings called ‘The Visual Narratives’ by Shalini Nehru and Runa Biswas at Gallery Hobitute, No 109, second floor, ADA Rangamandira, opposite Ravindra Kalakshetra, J C Road. The exhibition will be open till June 12, from 10.30 am to 6.30 pm.


Kynkyny Art, in  association with J M Financial is prese­nting Basuki 2011, featuring latest mixed media works of Basuki Dasgupta, at Kyn­kyny Art from June 13 to July 2.

Monsoon sale

Crimson –The Art Resource on Cunningham Road, is having its 18th annual monsoon sale of paintings till June 31.



Kalakshiti Performing Arts (Indiana, USA) will be presenting the bharatanatyam arangetram of Deepti Yogananda, a disciple of Sunita Yogananda, on June 11, 6.15 pm at Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan.


The next edition of the discussion series on dance organised by the Ashish Mohan Khokar, called Transcendance, will be held on June 11, 6.30 pm at Alliance Française. This edition of the DISCourse will feature Bangalore-based Indian contemporary dance troupe, Nritarutya. The troupe will perform live some of their latest works and showcase video excerpts of other popular works of the troupe.


Rasika Academy of Performing Arts will present the bharata­natyam rangapravesha
of Anusha Sreenivasan, a disciple of Kiran Subramanyam and Sandhya Kiran, on June 11 at ADA Rangamandira, J C Road.

Smruthi Devalaraju, a disciple of Vinata Vedam-Mai Gainesville, Florida, will present her arangetram on Ju­ne 11, 6.30 pm at Seva Sa­dan, 14th Cross, Malles­wa­ram.

Fine footwork

The arangetram of Ankitha N, a disciple of Geethalakshmi, will be held on June 12, 5.30 pm at ADA Rangamandira, J C Road. She was one of the members of the dance troupe which performed in the temples of Chidambaram, Kumb­akonam and Myladudurai.


‘Harmonium Habba’

Bijapure Harmonium Foundation is presenting the ‘5th Harmonium Habba’ on June 12 at Seva Sadan, Malle­swaram. The morning session, beginning at 9.30 am, will have harmonium solos by Deepak Mar­athe, Vyasamurty Katti and classical vocal by Sudhir Pote. The evening session at 5.30 pm will have harmonium solo by Sudhir Nayak. A choir will be conducted by Matturu Lakshmi Keshav. There will be a flue-harmonium duet by Pra­veen Godkhindi and Ravindra Katoti. There will also be a har­m­onium solo by Tulasidas Borkar.

A live performance by ‘One Nite Stand’ will be held on June 9, 8.30 pm at Hard Rock Café, 40, St Mark’s Road.

‘Sarangi Vadan’

Sursagar will present a Sarangi Vadan by Dhruba Ghosh at Canara Union Auditorium, 8th Main Road, 13th Cross, Malleswaram on June 11, 6.30 pm.

The programme Sarangi Sarita,  an Alochan session — history and technique with Dhruba Ghosh, will be presented at Smriti Nandan Cultural Hall, No. 15/3, Palace Road on June 12, 6.30 pm. On tabla will be Ravindra Yavagal. Entry is free.  

‘Easy’ tour

BFlat is presenting the album launch of Menwhopause’s ‘Easy’ tour (rock) on June 11, 8.30 pm. Menwhopause is one of the significant bands to have emerged from New Delhi in the last decade.

In concert

Moonarra, comprising Jagadeesh, Madhuri, Wilson Kenneth, Prakash Sontakke and Karthik Mani, will perform at two different venues in June. One is at Opus on June 17, 8 pm and the other is at Alliance Francaise on June 21, 5 pm.

Carnatic vocal

A Carnatic vocal music concert by S K Anil Murthy, (a disciple of Madurai T N Sheshagopalan)  will be held on June 12, 6 pm at Sri Rama Lalitha Kala Mandira, 9th Main Road, BSK 2nd St­age. He will be accompanied on violin by S Yashasvi and on mridangam by A S N Swamy and on ghatam by R Ramesh.

‘Vachana Niranthara’

‘Shri Sadguru Music Academy’, in association with ‘Akhila Bharatha Sharana Sahitya Parishath’, will be presenting Vachana Niranthara, a programme for 12 hours on June 12, 9.30 am onwards at JSS Auditorium. Rashtrakavi G S Shivarudrappa will inaugurate the event.

Saxophone recital

As part of the ‘Every Friday Cultural Evening Programme’, ICCR and Department of Kannada and Culture, Department of Youth Services and Sports, Youth Writers and Artists Guild, B Hariprasad will present a saxophone recital on June 10, 6.30 pm at Yavanika.


‘Bhakta Prahlada’

Dhaatu Puppet Theatre is staging its latest production, Bhakta Pra­hlada – A String Puppet Theatre, presented by Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan and Infosys Foundation, on June 9, 6 pm at Indian Institute of World Culture, B P Wadia Road, Basavanagudi.

Mango party

Ranga Shankara’s annual mango party will be held on June 12, 3.30 pm. Bring a kilo of any variety of mango and eat as much as you can at the party. There is a special session for children from 5.30 pm to 6.30 pm.


Goethe-Institut/Max Mueller Bhavan is screening a thought-provoking film programme based on the documentaries of the inspired German film-maker, Werner Herzog. The programme has been curated and will be introduced by M K Raghavendra. Called ‘Strange Places – Strange People, the Documentaries of Werner Herzog’ will be screened on June 10 and 11. ‘Gopinath Das Nyasa’ is celebrating the 97th birth anniversary of the founder of Prabhath Kalavidaru, Gopinath Dasaru, by conducting a national-level competition for the students of classical dance (bhara­tanatyam, kuchipudi) and music (sugama sangeetha and devaranama) in June.
