On June 5, Narayana Murthy’s son Rohan married TVS MD Venu Srinivasan’s daughter, Lakshmi, in Chennai. On June 12, the groom’s side will be throwing a lavish reception and lunch at the Leela Palace in the City. Metrolife took a look at the preparations for the event.

All guests have received eco-friendly invites made by the Akshaya Patra Foundation. The simple yet colourful invite strictly instructs the guests not to bring any flowers or gifts for the couple. Sources at the hotel say that 2,000 to 2,500 guests have already confirmed their presence and the entire first floor of the hotel has been booked by the wedding party.

“There are 10 ballrooms in the first floor and all of them have been booked for the reception. Each ballroom has a different seating capacity and the couple will be spending time in each one of these ballrooms visiting guests,” said the source.

The biggest ballroom, which is the Grand Ballroom, has a seating capacity for 400 guests and has a stage. The smallest one will have just 40 to 60 guests. A few of the guests are expected to stay in the hotel as 50 to 60 rooms have been booked for the day and the guests are expected to arrive on Saturday itself.

An outside agency will be taking care of the decoration, which will start from Saturday evening. “This being a typical South Indian wedding, the menu will comprise dishes from the Mangalorean and South Indian cuisines alone,” said the source.

With many high profile guests expected, the event is much awaited. Security has been kept tight and only those with an invite in their name will be allowed inside the venue. “It’s a high profile event, so there is bound to be tight security. We have been requested to allow only those with the invite inside,” added the source.
