"We are allies. We have been allies for long. Our alliance will continue in that spirit," party spokesperson Jayanthi Natarjan said, adding that the 2G issue will have no impact on the alliance.

She was reacting after after DMK Chief M Karunanidhi said in Chennai that he was not disappointed over Congress not helping his party in the 2G spectrum issue.

There was intense speculation after a meeting of the party's High Power Committee that DMK might pull out its ministers from the UPA government.

Another Congress spokesperson Manish Tewari termed it a classic case of "raising the ghost and then slaying it" by the Opposition.

"DMK has only reiterated the status quo" was his brief refrain to the development.
Karunanidhi said the DMK's General Council, at its meeting next month, would decide on ties with other parties as it was the only authorised body to take such important decisions.
He has also rejected the Congress contention that it was defeated in the Tamil Nadu assembly polls due to the 2G scam. "Some vested interests due to jealousy had blown the 2G issue out of proportion."

The editorial of Congress Sandesh has held 2G scam responsible for the defeat of the party in Tamil Nadu and Puducherry.
