A total of 604.61 metric tonne of gold changed hands at the Shanghai Gold Exchange last year, the People’s Daily reported.
China produced 340.876 metric tonne of gold in 2010, remaining the world’s largest gold producing country for the fourth consecutive year.
Global demand for gold totalled 2,778.6 metric tonne in 2010. This included 783.4 metric tonne from India, 571.51 metric tonne from China and 180.9 metric tonne from the United States.
