Where are you going?

Last Updated 13 June 2011, 16:32 IST

After all he had a bitter experience during the Passion of Jesus when he denied him thrice even with oaths saying that he did not know who Jesus was. So he was running out, away from danger. As he walked hurriedly he saw in a vision Jesus with a cross going into Rome opposite to the path Peter had taken. Peter surprised at the vision asked Jesus the famous question “Where are you going Lord? (Quo vadis Domine?)” The surprising answer he got was “Peter I am going to Rome to be crucified”. Peter was ashamed at his own cowardice and turned back in repentance and was to die as a martyr on the cross, crucified upside down.

Are you also running away from your responsibilities? Are you in despair? Do you want to end it all by suicide thinking that by this you would have solved the problem that is facing you now? Maybe your family may appear to you as a burden; your work may have been lost. You wonder how you can manage in the changed situation. How can you face the world? You had a position, a name and now everything is lost. What can you look forward to? Can you live a life of ignominy? Have courage my friend. Everything is not lost. Think of the present situation as an opportunity God has provided for you to come up and become someone who could be truly proud of who he truly is in front of God. Grit is what is needed and a man of faith in God will find a new path in life: “Light dawns for the righteous, and joy for the upright in heart. Rejoice in the Lord, O you righteous, and give thanks to his holy name!” (Psalm 97.11-12). The ways of God are strange, indeed. He allows his just one to suffer and face trials only in order that this person may become better. Do you really believe this? If so pick yourself up and say: “May your will be done”.
This easily said but in practise it is difficult. The dark clouds appear dark but they say there is always a silver line at the edge of the clouds because the sun definitely shines brightly behind the dark clouds and when the clouds disperse, the sun shines ever more brightly. So, looking forward to the bright future, face the current darkness with courage and equanimity.

No difficulty is insurmountable. It appears to be frightening and threatening but if you preserve your calm confidence you will certainly find a solution.
