Last Updated 30 July 2009, 17:49 IST

Fresh from his triumph in the Indonesia President Invitational in Jakarta last week, Bhullar looked completely at home at the Empire Hotel and Country Club, barring a fifth-hole bogey which was the lone blot in an otherwise impeccable card studded with five birdies.

Lahiri, a 10th tee starter, dropped two strokes but more than compensated with four birdies and a spectacular 15th-hole eagle.

Seasoned campaigner Gaurav Ghei carded 68 to lie tied 19th, one shot ahead of compatriot C Muniyappa, who was tied 30th.

Baaz Mann (70) was tied 51st while Kolkata pro Ranil Gangjee and Digvijay Singh managed identical 71s and the trio of Chirag Kumar, Himmat Rai and Manav Jaini carded matching 72s.
California-based Korean Ted Oh remained on course for his career breakthrough on the Asian Tour after taking the opening-round lead with Australian Gavin Flint after the duo carded matching 64s.

Leading first-round scores: 64: Ted Oh (Kor), Gavin Flint (Aus). 65: Boonchu Ruangkit (Tha), Lu Chien-Soon (Tpe), Mardan Mamat (Sin). 66: David Gleeson, Scott Barr, Jason Norris (all Aus), Steven Tiley (Eng), Son Joon-eob (Kor). 67: Mo Joong-kyung (Kor), Anirban Lahiri, Choengchai Panpumpo (Tha), Shaaban Hussin (Mas), Chris Rodgers (End), Gaganjeet Bhullar, Sattaya Supupramai, Wisut Artjanawat (both Tha).
