Founder T R Ramaiah, of Sukrutha Teachers Training Institute is said to have assaulted some students who had come to enquire about the stipend provided by the government for such courses, after using abusive language against them.

The incident is said to have occurred after the students, who had gone to collect information regarding the institutes that were receiving funds from the Government, from the office of education department in Yelandur, returned to their institute.

When the students returned to the campus, Ramaiah called them into his office and abused them using cuss words. Ramaiah, it is said, even assaulted B Rani, a first year student of D Ed and also attacked S Shilpa, Somavathi and Paramesh who came to stop him.

Unable to withstand the assault, Rani collapsed on the spot. Her friends and colleagues took her to Government Hospital and admitted her. College Principal Shobha was on leave when the incident happened.

Following this, students got together and shouted slogans against the institute and its founder, staging a snap stir. Student leader Mahadevaswamy said the founder was angry since the girls had gone to enquire about the stipend which was due to them, but was not given by the institution. Since the institution was caught on the wrong foot, the founder had launched an assault to cover up their act, he added. A case was registered after the incident.

Learning about the incident, parents and locals arrived at the college and assaulted Ramaiah. Speaking to the media, DIET Principal Satyanarayana said the government stood in support of the aggrieved students and a report will be sent to the higher officers after collecting details from them, and suitable action will be initiated following
recommendations.
