Deccan Herald had published a report on June 12 about BWSSB’s claim that it had replaced underground drainage (UGD) pipelines in Basavanagudi.

According to T Venkataraju, BWSSB’s engineer-in-chief, work related to replacement of UGD lines were carried out, but in certain areas replacement work could not been taken up due to logistical reasons. “It is not that we have not done the work at all. A few areas, which were mentioned in the estimated work order, were not covered as we faced some problems like availing permits for road cutting etc from the Bruhat Bangalore Mahanagara Palike. But in most areas, replacement of UGD lines have been carried out,” he said.

Although, the RTI applicant was specific on seeking details about the list of water supply and sanitary lines ‘replaced’ during the past five years in Basavanagudi area, the BWSSB provided details of the estimated work rather than the details of those places where the work was carried out.
