Normally, the water logged roads and the vehicles wading through the water logged road was a common scene in Madikeri. However, now the CMC has developed Dasavala thodu to prevent the logging of water on the road.

The 2.5 km drain from Madikeri private bus stand to Vidya Nagara was cleaned by the CMC a month ago. A stormwater drain was constructed to allow the easy flow of water.
As a result, with the heavy rains lashing the district, no water flows on the road, it flows meticulosuly on the drain.

“We undertook the work before the onset of monsoon. All weeds in the drains were removed. The removed silt were dumped on the outskirts,” said CMC President H M Nandakumar.

“We need not worry over the drain for the next two to three years. The bill for the contractor will be paid soon. Legislative Assembly Speaker K G Bopaiah has been asked to sanction the funds,” he added.

He said the other side of the drain has been encroached. A fence will be laid to evict the encroachers.

Following the complaints on drainage getting blocked, the City Municipal Corporation has decided to maintain the drainages.

A retaining wall was constructed near the drain in front of bus stop in Madikeri at the cost of Rs 40 lakh. Once the work is complete, then slab will be laid, he added.
