CIL went ahead in the 27th minute through Manoj and managed to hold off Postal’s relentless attempts at a goal for long. However, the CIL defenders, who were remarkably good in safeguarding their citadel throughout the match, watched on without a clue as Prakash snaked his way through to score a memorable equaliser in the 67th minute.

The match started off with CIL dictating terms as their midfielders controlled possession of the ball and were accurate in their passing. But with strikers Manoj and Gopi failing to get into good positions to have a shy at goal, CIL went nowhere.

Postal strung together some good moves with Sham and Prakash leading the way, but they too had trouble finishing, and it looked as if a barren encounter was on the cards.

CIL, however, benefitted from a lapse in the Postal defence in the 27th minute. After collecting a pass from Subba, Manoj lobbed the ball over Postal custodian Ravindran and into the net to give CIL the lead.

In the second half, Postal stepped into overdrive and made some daring attempts but nothing materialised, not until the 67th minute at least. Running fast on the left, Sham slid the ball to Prakash 40 yards from goal. Prakash charged ahead, dribbling his way through past two defenders. The lanky winger caressed the ball past CIL ’keeper N Venkatesh to the bottom right of the goal for the equaliser.

Other result: ‘A’ Division: Bangalore Mars: 4 (Deepak 3rd, 25th, 68th, U Babu 63rd) bt SWR: 0.
