JOIN USShreyal wallops Sunand for title
A student of Jyothi Kendra Vidyalaya, 13-year-old top seed Shreyal beat second seed Sunand S Vasan to claim top honours 11-4, 11-6, 11-5. Second-seeded Madhurya, from the Harsha Table Tennis Academy, overcame a stiff challenge from top seed Maitreyee Bailoor of Belgaum to win 13-11, 11-7, 6-11, 11-3.
Shreyal, who had ousted fourth seed Vedanth M Urs of PTTA in the semifinal, played with good intensity and speed around the table as he raced to a 9-2 lead in the first game. Vasan changed his service action to earn a couple points but Shreyal, on serve, took the game and a 1-0 lead in the best of five match. Vasan tried his hand at stepping further away from the table to counter Shreyal’s spin but the latter outwitted him by playing the ball deep to take the second game as well. Shreyal sealed the win in 28 minutes after winning the third game.
Second seed Sucheth P Shenoy of Horizon TT Academy and top seed Aishwarya N of Star TTAcademy were crowned champions in the Cadet boys’ and girls’ categories respectively.
