Though the level of damage is exactly not known, it is said that about five to six acres of land where paddy was grown was completely submerged.

As soon the farmers came to know about the breach in the canal on Tuesday night, they immediately rushed to the fields and shifted the harvested paddy crop that was stored in the land to a safer place.

But still, they were not able to protect the standing crops in around four acres of land. They fear huge losses now.

Speaking to Deccan Herald, the farmers said that the negligence of the officials is the main reason for the damage as they had informed the authorities concerned over the crack in the canal much earlier.

But they failed to take necessary steps resulting in the breach, they complained.
MLA C S Puttaraju, former MLA and KRRS president K S Puttannaiah, Jagdish of department of water resources and others visited the spot.

Puttaraju assured that the farmers need not be anxious over the loss of crop, as he would have a discussion with the officials and see that suitable compensation is provided.
