As soon as deputy commissioner K Amaranarayan flagged off the Olympic Day run, all participants wearing white T-shirts with the logo of the Olympics stormed the B Rachaiah double road. They converged at the travellers’ bungalow here via the B R Ambedkar statue in Ramasamudra and district court road.

The public, who had gathered to watch the run on both sides of the road, cheered the runners all along.

Over two thousand participants, including students, officials and sportspersons took part in the 5-km long run organised by the district administration, zilla panchayat, district youth services and sports department and the Karnataka Olympic association.

President of the Karnataka Olympic Association (KOA) K Govindaraj, who was overwhelmed by the response, said this year the border district had been selected for the run for the first time to bring in awareness among the youth about the ills of vices and addictive habits.

He said the objective of the Olympics was to promote peace and amity between states and nations.

KOA secretary Anantraj, vice president D Munireddy, ZP CEO K Sundar Nayak and athlete B C Parvathi participated in the run.
