Malnad to get 20 cr for development

Briefing reporters after the Cabinet meeting, Higher Education Minister V S Acharya said Rs 20 crore has been sanctioned for setting up the Authority in Shimoga under the chairmanship of Chief Minister B S Yeddyurappa.

A bill to provide statutory sanction to the authority was cleared by the Cabinet on Thursday, which will be tabled in the next Legislature Session.

So far, the State government has released half of the amount of the Rs 20 crore announced in the 2010-11 budget. Some of the major works to be taken up are, protection of heritage temples in the three districts; protection and conservation of forts in the Western Ghats ranges; development of ‘Sharana Kshetras,’ promotion of waterfalls, development of Neenasam in Heggodu, etc.
