As per the scheme, workers in the unorganised sector have to pay Rs 100 a month for 10 years.

Accusing corporate lobby behind the NPS, Federation of Karnataka Auto Rickshaw Driver’s Union (FKARDU) president, M Sundaram, said:

“ The Government is forcibly extracting money from workers. They want to invest our money in the share market. Moreover, we are not guranteed against the fluctuations in the share market. Our money would go down the drain if after 10 years the share market is down.”
Funds underutilised

The welfare board for unorganised workers does not utilise the funds allotted in each year’s budget.

“Instead they are extorting money from anganwadi workers, auto drivers and others in the unorganised sectors. We demand that the government create a new pension scheme to address our specific needs,” he added.
