500 sign up opposing Excel Plant in City

The campaign led by former MLA M K Somashekar began the drive from Visvesvaraya Industrial Suburb. According to the former legislator, the drive that is intended to collect nearly one lakh signatures, will be gradually extended to several other wards in the vicinity of the plant situated in Sewage Farm in Vidyaranyapuram.

Accompanied by former deputy mayor Siddaraju, the ex-MLA knocked sought the support of the residents in demanding shifting of the plant elsewhere. The plant that produces both natural and vermi compost recycling waste collected from the city, is emanating tepid smell making it difficult for the residents to live in localities closer.

The smell sometimes reachers Ramabai Nagar, crossing J P Nagar.  The samiti had launched fight against the plant by staging a stir at the very site, followed by blocking the entry and exit of vehicles carrying waste at sewage farm.

Recently, MP H Vishwanath too extended his support to the protest, after taking stock of the situation at the plant. Former mayors Dakshinamurthy and Modamani, Mysore District Congress Committee president C Dasegowda, spokesperson Lokesh Rao and others participated in the drive.
