Sexual harassment: Victim to move Governor's office

Last Updated 25 June 2011, 18:36 IST

Vijay Kumar, husband of research scholar Saritha who accused her guide of seeking sexual favours, said they would lodge a complaint against the university with the Governor’s office.

On Friday, the Syndicate meeting decided to put the case on hold till the report of a departmental inquiry launched by the university under the directive of the State government was also submitted. “It will not be proper to discuss and act on the report when there is a parallel probe being conducted by a panel constituted for departmental inquiry. The issue is also sub judice as the police has filed a chargesheet against the professor in the court of law,” the Syndicate had held.

However, Kumar has slammed the Syndicate observations and said the police investigation had held the accused guilty of harassing his wife, though the court still needed to give its judgment.

“These arguments are aimed at saving the professor. There is no need for a departmental inquiry when the Women Harassment Complaints Committee has submitted its report. It will only intimidate and harass the victim further. It is a conspiracy to change the case in favour of the professor. We will seek the Governor’s intervention,” he said.
