The external harbour is being built in the Kerala model.

A mini fishing harbour is built in Alvegadde at Shiroor. The estimated cost for the project is Rs 7 crore. Administrative approval has been procured for the same. A meeting will be held at Bangalore in 15 days to discuss the project on desilting works at Hejmadi, Malpe, Hangarukatte, Gangolli and Kundapur bunder, he added.

Sea erosion

He said as many as 1,113 meter areas in Udupi district have been identified as sea erosion prone area. Boulders have been put at Udyavara-Padukere and in two or three areas in Kundapur taluk. The DC has sent a proposal of Rs 11.18 crore to the Government to combat sea erosion menace.

“We are expecting funds from the government, following which plans will be chalked out,” he said.

Roads

A sum of Rs 5.94 crores have been released for ZP for road maintenance. This sum has come to ZP after a gap of two years. Most of the potholes in the PWD roads have been repaired. Measures have been taken to upgrade the stretches in the rural areas and government has been requested to hike the fund allotted for road maintenance to district roads and state highways.

He said as many as 11499 applications have been received for Suvarna Bhoomi Yojane under agriculture, horticulture, fishing, bio fuel, organic farming, sericulture and bee cultivation categories. All the applicants will receive the benefits as the target has not been exceeded. The target was 14,623, Acharya informed.

He said measures have been taken to help the siteless families in the district. The Tahsildars of three taluks have been asked to identify the land in their respective taluks.

“We are expecting nearly 150 acres of land. The actual number of siteless in the district will cross 12,500, however after filtering the numbers we may have about five thousand siteless people,” he said adding that measures have been taken to legalise the land of as many as 3,300 people.

Beware

Cautioning the public against fake government agencies assuring homes to the needy, Acharya said there is no any government recognized agency in the district to collect funds on behalf of the government. The so called Karnataka Pranthya Krishi Koolikarara Sangha is an illegal organisation and is unauthorised to collect a sum of Rs 50 from the farmers, he said.

Ministers to school

On July 5 all the elected people representatives including the CM will visit one school in their constituencies and spend an hour interacting with the children and faculty. This is organised under the programme “Shalegalalli Navu-Neevu”. This measure will help the elected representatives locate the loopholes in the infrastructure and quality of education imparted in the respective schools.

The rate of success of the programme envisioned in the state towards quality education five years back is satisfactory, he said.
