Kodagu district has been receiving heavy rainfall over the last two days and this proportionately had its impact on river Cauvery and Harangi reservoir.

The inflow of water to Harangi has shot up and the reservoir, which can hold a maximum of 8.5 tmc of water, on Sunday at 8 am registered water level of 2,847.62 feet. By afternoon the level of water increased to 2847.95 feet. On Saturday the water level was 2,845.64 feet, which means that the water level has shot up by two feet in just one day. The reservoir can hold maximum of 2,859 feet of water.

The inflow of water was about 1105 cusec on Sunday at 8 am. The watershed areas received 36.3 mm rainfall. With another 11.38 ft of water, the reservoir will be full.

When compared to last year, this year the reservoir has collected 33 feet more water. The Harangi watershed area has so far received 156 mm of rainfall and if the rains continue to lash in the same manner, the reservoir will be full in matter of few days. Last year the farmers dependant on Harangi for irrigation had faced trouble because of low water level.
The rainfall and the water level in Harangi this year has brought smiles on the faces of the farmers.

The inflow at Chiklihole reservoir too is good. Water has already started gushing over the crescent moon shaped wall here. The lavish spectacle is attracting tourists in large number already. With both Harangi and Chiklihole having good water level, farmers have already started the farm works with great enthusiasm.

There are possibilities of water being released to the canals from the reservoirs during first week of July.

River Cauvery is flowing full and tourists are making best use of this by engaging into adventure sports like river rafting etc.
