SSA's noble touch to disabled children

In order to bring disabled children to the mainstream of the society, the Public Instruction Department organised a health check-up camp for the disabled in the district under the Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan at the Block Resource Centre on Tuesday.

The programme is being organised in all the six taluks. Disabled children in the age group of 6-14 years can be brought for the treatment. Depending on their needs, the SSA is providing them assistance. Partial blindness or total blindness, hearing impairment, speech impairment and such problems will be treated. Block Resource Person Srinivas told Deccan Herald that the SSA will provide wheelchairs, spectacles and other aids to the needy also.
“Such programmes will be conducted every year and SSA,” he added.

There are 2,446 disabled children in the district of which 317 cannot come out of thier homes to schools. To help such children, the SSA will provide coaching at their homes, said SSA Planning Co-ordinator Krishna Ram.

SSA Planning officer S N Kanniah, Resource persons Sukanya Manjunath, Nirmala and others were present.
