The incident which occurred on Friday has already triggered resentment among devotees as well as servitors and temple priests. The Puri temple has already been bracketed by Central security agencies as one of the top shrines in the country which could possibly be a target of the terrorists.
Devotees visiting the temple on Friday morning were surprised when they found a man atop the 12th century shrine. The servitors of the temple immediately alerted the police personnel in charge of the shrine’s security.
The man was identified as 31-year-old Bipin Bhoi, a resident of Khurda district. He reportedly told the police that he had climbed up the temple as instructed by “Lord Jagannath.” “He appears to be a mentally unstable person,” police said.
