Hemmed in by a host of adversarial circumstances since former telecom minister A Raja was arrested in the 2G case and the party’s Rajya Sabha MP and Karunanidhi’s daughter Kanimozhi refused bail in the same case by the Supreme Court, the recovery of religious faith is apparent in the DMK leader’s immediate relatives.

Concerned over these developments including her father’s and that of her brother M K Stalin’s health condition, the DMK patriarch’s first daughter, Selvi, from his marriage to Dayalu Ammal, is presently on a temple-going spree, reports reaching Chennai on Wednesday evening said.

Selvi, along with her close family members first visited the Lord Venkateshwara Temple in Tirumala in neighbouring Andhra Pradesh and prayed for her kith and kin in distress, the reports said.

After this, Selvi and her relatives drove down to the ancient Shiva temple in Sri Kalahasthi, where they reportedly performed a special Rahu-Ketu Parihara Pooja, praying for better days for her father Karunanidhi, brother Stalin and half-sister Kanimozhi, the reports said. But nobody from DMK’s first family could confirm it.

Special prayers

Selvi also later performed special archanas at the shrine of Goddess Gnana Prasoonambika, consort of Lord Shiva in the Sri Kalahasthi Temple, built by the Vijayanagara kings. Apparently, coming to know of their presence in the temple complex, media men and lensmen in Sri Kalahasthi rushed in for a photo-op.

This was strongly resented by Selvi and her relatives, leading to an exchange of words with the media personnel, the reports said.

However, one of the temple priests intervened to pacify the media contingent who later dispersed from there.
