Engg seats increased for diploma students

Additional 3,000 students get chance

 Announcing this here on Saturday, Higher Education Minister, Aravind Limbavali said the percentage of student intake  has now been increased from 10 to 15 for diploma students.

 “An order has been passed regarding the same on Friday and diploma students will have an additional 3,000 engineering seats. The State considered to increase the number of seats based on the diploma students’ demand and requirement,” he added.
Earlier, when ten per cent was reserved for diploma students, nearly 6,000 seats were set aside in the State’s engineering colleges. According to the announcement made, more than 9,000 engineering seats will be reserved for diploma students seeking BE admissions through lateral entry with effect from the present academic year. 
Limbavali said that efforts are on to instill confidence in rural students aspiring for diploma courses.

“Spoken English laboratories for the benefit of rural students will be established at all Polytechnic colleges. Higher Education department will ensure that spoken English is made mandatory to students,” the minister added.

Tenders for VIAT

Limbavali said the process of inviting tenders for the Visvesvaraya Institute of Advanced Technology, a dedicated centre for post graduate studies was already in place. A separate CET for diploma students will be conducted by the Department of Technical Education where as the seat selection process will be conducted by KEA.

Students rewarded

M R Santhosh,  Nishant Kumar, B Shobha and BM Malini,  from SJP Polytechnic College, Srikant H Talwar and B Bhuvaneshwari from MEI Polytechnic College, K Dharshan from Institute of Textile Technology, BC Nuthan Prasad from Acharya Polytechnic, Reshma Shetty from KLE Polytechnic College, Hubli and M Venkanna from SVVS Polytechnic college, Bellary were rewarded with cash prizes for excellent performance by the Department of Technical Education for the 2009-10 academic year. A dedicated hall for seat selection process exclusively for Diploma students was inaugurated on Saturday.
