Striking the right balance

With hoards of activities lined up every year, the science students of the college will get a deeper and a practical insight into the lessons being taught in class.

The ‘Science Forum’ has begun its activities for this academic year.

This year, the forum has decided to weave all of their activities around a theme and as declared by the United Nations, the Science Forum’s theme this year will be the ‘International Year of Chemistry (IYC)’.

Inaugurating this, the chief guest of the day, A G Samulson, chairman – inorganic and physical department, IISC Bangalore, told the students that it is through chemistry that one can discover new aspects of science.

“The forum is a great way to learn new things but it is only the passion that will keep things going,” he added. Keeping the tradition, the new president of the club was sworn in by the previous year’s representative. Said Grace, the newly appointed president, “I find it as a great opportunity for all science students to be active and take what we learn in our classrooms to a whole new level.”

The inauguration was followed by a theatre presentation by the Chemistry department, Panchabhoodha – Elixir of life. The play was steeped in poetry, music and dance – all interwoven into a cute story.

The play celebrated the five elements — earth, fire, air, water and space. “Through this presentation we aim to explore the balance between both modern science and traditional values,” said one of the students from the theatre troupe.
