Forest flowers, palm trees, aracunut estates, paddy fields, mini streems and all that you can imagine to be in a country side was present at this serene surroundings.

As I proceeded, I reached the banks of River Nethravathi and on the banks of the river, there stood the beautiful Pajiradka Sadhashiweshwara temple. This temple has a history of more than 800 years. Some people say that its older than Dharmasthala Shri Manjunatheshwara temple. The temple has the idols of Lord Ganapathi, Subrahmanya and Durgaparameshwari. The temple has been renovated twice - in 1980 and in 2008.

Just like any other temples in the coastal districts of Dakshina Kannada and Udupi, this temple too has idol of Naga under a peepul tree, which is worshiped by devotees everyday.

“Pajiradka is not only known for the temple, but also for spirit worship. Bairava, Panjurli, Kyrotti, Raktheshwari, Guliga and many spirits are worshiped on special days atleast once in a year,” says Managing Trustee Balachandra Rao.

The speciality pajiradka is special because of its surroundings. The Netravati river and rocks in the river and riverbed adds colour to the natural scenic beauty. In fact, one can cross the river in summer when the water-level is very low. Another specaility of the location is the union of two rivers - Nethravati and Mruthyunjaya. More  than anything else, the silence adds something special  to the place.

Though Pajiradka is located in a little bit interior area and lacks good road connectivity, the temple and the surroundings can be developed into a tourist spot with little interest from the authorities concerned. In fact, both Dharmasthala and Kanyadi Lord Rama temple are near to Pajiradka. The next time you plan to visit Dharmasthala, don’t miss this place which is worth a visit.

How to reach

When you travel from Mangalore to Dharmasthala, you will find a place called Neerachilume between Ujire and Dharmasthala, from where an asphalted road leads to Pajiradka. However, if you prefer to walk, then it is just two kms from Kanyadi.
