BJP leader files plaint against Emran Hashmi

Hashmi has alleged that the 'Nibbana' housing society in the posh Pali Hill area of suburban Bandra refused to give him an NOC (no objection certificate) to buy a flat there because he was a Muslim. Bhatt lent credibility to the charge by addressing a joint news conference on Friday. However, the 'Nibbana' society secretary Capt J J Chhetry dubbed the charge as “baseless” and claimed that the society was yet to receive transfer application and other necessary documents like police clearance certificate from Hashmi. Moreover, as per the model bye-laws, an NOC from the Society is not required to transfer a flat by way of sale.

The BJP leader Sanjay Bedia, who is executive member of the party’s National Youth Committee, lodged his complaint with D B Marg police station, accusing both Hashmi and Bhatt under various sections of IPC. Bedia claimed that Hashmi had not entered into any agreement with the house owner or even paid a token amount to him. The actor had “unnecessarily” raked up the issue of NOC saying it was refused by the society only because he was a Muslim, the BJP leader said.

As a matter of fact, the flat owner D N Suvarna has now decided not to sell the flat to Hashmi. The Society too held a meeting over the weekend and demanded an apology from Hashmi for raking up the charge of religious profiling.

According to the secretary, Suvarna had casually told the society that he planned to sell his flat. Suvarna said he received Rs 1 lakh cheque from Hashmi but he had not encashed it. So he would be returning it to the actor, as he does not want to sell his flat anymore.

The society is yet to receive summons from the state minorities commission, to which Hashmi approached.
