<p>The meetings organised at district-level by committees appointed to prevent violence against Dalits should discuss the matter, said the minister at the meeting. <br /><br />The deputy commissioners should ensure that the local administrative bodies utilise the funds released for the project appropriately, Narayanaswamy added.<br />Underutilisation<br /><br />“Less than 40 per cent of the funds released to city and town municipal councils for the welfare of members of scheduled castes and tribes is being utilised,” rued the minister and said the money should be used ‘100 per cent, henceforth.’<br /><br />There has been delay in providing residence to destitute people, he said and added that all beneficiaries under the Rajiv Gandhi Urban Housing Scheme should be provided houses.<br /><br />Biometric system<br />The minister said the biometric system would be implemented in the student hostels of the State within three months. <br /><br />This would be an efficient method to prevent irregularities in the hostels, he assured.<br />“An amount of Rs two crore would be released for renovation of two hostels in the district. The hostels would also be provided with libraries, toilets and kitchens,” said Narayanaswamy.<br />Mekedaatu project The minister assured that the Mekedaatu irrigation project would soon be implemented. “The Government is yet to receive technical assistance regarding implementation of the project, which requires Rs 1,500 as expenditure,” he added.<br /><br />Work on undertaking the project would begin “as soon as the Cabinet gives the go ahead for the Nethravathi irrigation project,” Narayanaswamy promised.<br /></p>
