Addressing a news conference here on Thursday, Ahinda Working President Lolaksha said that this move threatens the secular fabric of the nation and can bear serious impact on the society in future.
“No religious epics or text should be taught in the schools. The children in schools will not have the maturity of making decision and government has no right to impose any thought on the young minds,” he said adding that Government is a body which brings in ‘rule of law’ and not ‘rule of ideology’.
He instead said that Ahinda will have no objection if religious texts of various religions are kept as optional subject at degree and post graduate level. “In the degree and post graduate level, the students will be matured enough to take decisions. Let these religious learning be an option and not a compulsion even at this level,” he said.
He opined that government should have taken action against institutions run by any religion, which have imposed religious text as a subject on students. It is unfortunate that Government which is the custodian of democracy and secular fabric of the nation is resorting to taking such a step.
Ahinda President Vasudev Boloor, Treasurer Renny D’Souza among others were present.
