Power grid to build 9 transmission corridors

Briefing mediapersons on the sidelines of an event in Hyderabad S K Chaturvedi, chairman and managing director of Power Grid Corporation said that the transmission corridor comprising 2000 km costing Rs 1200 crore will be commissioned by 2014.
Chaturvedi said the corporation has taken up a massive program of construction of nine transmission corridors at a cost of Rs.58, 000 crore to be commissioned by 2015-16.

“We aim to raise the funds from ADB, World Bank, bonds, suppliers’ credit and internal resources for this project,” he said. He said the north east transmission corridor will also help evacuation of 5000 MW of hydel power generated in the two massive hydel power generation units in Bhutan. ‘The corridor will help evacuation of 56,000 MW green power potential of the north east region to West and North India,” he added.

Chaturvedi who received the country’s first  330KVA and 1200 kv class ultra high voltage power transformer indigenously manufactured by the Hyderabad based Vijay Electricals said the innovative power  transformer will be put on testing at the Corporations earth station at Bina in Madhya  Pradesh over a 1.6 km line on an experimental basis for one year.

“The power transformers manufactured by the BHEL and the C&G will also tested at this testing yard,” he said.
