“In view of the fact that the Centre has already placed material to prove that a department was already in vogue for dealing with the issue, we do not deem it necessary for setting up a fresh panel. Accordingly, we recall our order dated November 15,” a Bench headed by Justice Markandeya Katju said in its order.
Hearing a petition filed by 90-year-old war widow Pushpa Vanti, the Supreme Court had directed the Central government to establish a commission to look into the grievances of serving and former members of the armed forces and their dependents in the last year.
The petitioner had claimed that she had been getting a mere Rs 80 as monthly pension since the death of her husband in 1967 and the same was never revised.
