Torrential rains claim four lives in Karnataka

So far, one death each has been reported from Shimoga, Kodagu, Haveri and Dakshina Kannada, they said.

The estimated loss so far has been put at Rs 26.89 lakh in the state, with 67 houses damaged in Udupi district and another 52 tenements in Kodagu, they said.

In Belgaum district, nine roads were closed to traffic, while in Uttara Kannada district, where 48 houses were damaged by the deluge, 16 relief camps have been set up and 42 boats deployed for rescue operations, officials said.

The Coast Guard has also been put on high alert in Udupi after all six rivers in the district crossed the danger level.
