Three RJD workers killed, MP escapes bid on life

Last Updated 20 July 2011, 18:44 IST

The RJD Lok Sabha MP, however, had a providential escape as he was away from his residence at the time of the incident.

The assailants, armed with AK-47, barged into the MP’s house around 3 pm this afternoon, before spraying three of his supporters with bullets.

The deceased have been identified as Manibhushan, Devendra Mukhiya and Dinesh Yadav-a driver.

“Prima facie, this appears to be a naxal attack, because the marauders were carrying AK-47 and indulged in indiscriminate firing before gunning down my three supporters,” said a distraught Umashankar.

MP safe

The MP narrowly escaped the jaws of death because he had left his house barely an hour before the shoot-out .

“I came here by a morning flight. Had I been present at that time, meri bhi hatya ho jati (I, too, would have been killed),” he said.

The MP said that he had apprised the Prime Minister and the Home Minister of the threat perception about him.

“There was a security lapse today(Wednesday), or how could some people enter the house of an MP and open fire, killing three persons in broad-daylight,” the RJD MP wondered.

Meanwhile, Chief Minister Nitish Kumar has asked Bihar DGP Neelmani to conduct a thorough inquiry into the incident and book the culprits at the earliest.
