Singh was quizzed at the crime branch office here for three hours and was grilled on the basis of the “disclosures” made by arrested Sanjiv Saxena, a reported aide of the leader, and Suhail Hindustani, a small-time BJP worker who allegedly brokered the bribery deal. According to sources, the senior politician has admitted that Saxena was his aide.

Singh was earlier in a denial mode.  Singh, who brought the SP closer to the Congress to bail out the UPA on the Indo-US civil nuclear deal impasse and the trust vote in 2008, walked into the crime branch office after remaining incommunicado during last few weeks.

Saxena and Suhail have blamed Singh for the alleged horse trading during the trust vote in Parliament. Both of them are now in the judicial custody till August 5 after their arrests.
Singh may be called for questioning again, sources added.

The police on the basis of the numbers of the currency notes which were used as bribe money have identified 10 branches of different banks from where the money was withdrawn by the conspirators. The police are also checking the identity of the account holders concerned.

Singh is alleged to have offered money through his aide to three BJP MPs to buy their  support in the trust vote for the UPA government at the Centre.  The BJP MPs had brought the wads of notes on July 22, 2008, in Parliament, kicking up a Parliamentary probe into the alleged bribery case.
